Laundry Soap and Six Kids

As a father of 6 amazing kids I do a lot of laundry. For years I’ve been really bothered by the fact that the laundry soap I was buying came in a plastic container. But I shrugged my shoulders and made it a point to get those plastic jugs into my recycling container. When I learned that only about 9% of plastic gets fully recycled my guilt swelled every time I’d drop the plastic jug into my recycling bin. I knew I had to make a change.

Through social media I found I found a company that mailed the detergent in a recyclable cardboard envelope. I got excited and I decided to give it a shot and ordered some. A short time later the package arrived. The sheets were small but they worked great. I opted for non-scented. I considered this a calculated risk having teenage boys but was happy to find that the laundry always came out fresh and clean. I noted no quality difference between my liquid detergent and these new dissolvable sheets. My kids were pretty skeptical, “This is really going to get the load clean?” It did. over and over. This company offers a steep discount if you sign up for a subscription. Definitely worth it. Also, the ingredients are biodegradable.

I could go on and on but I’ll list out the main benefits of this switch I made.

  • I’m no longer contributing to the 700 million plastic laundry jug problem we have

  • My cost is about the same per load (about 20 cents).

  • No quality difference

  • Specific benefits to the brand I use: Earth Breeze

    • Eco packaging

    • Biodegradable

    • Certified cruelty free product

    • Company is part of ‘1% For The Planet’

    • For every package I buy 10 loads of detergent is donated

There are other subscription brands out there if you want to do more research on the topic but because this one works for me, I don’t feel a need to try others at this time.

If you use liquid detergent, I challenge you to change your laundry dirty habit! ;)
